The Young CEO May Fail

Looking back to the original days, positions had to meet strict criteria, such as years of experience, education, age, etc.  More than tens or hundreds of elements have been affecting these criteria, and the norm is becoming abnormal.

Nowadays, several positions are being filled randomly. When you see a young CEO, this is not a scenario that can be complimented.  Look into what this young CEO will bring to the table. What job experience has he gained, and what social expertise does he have?

Straight to the point, without a sugar coating, the level of thinking is immature for that person to be a CEO. On the other hand, that person isn’t experienced enough to handle the business requirements, as is often the case with individuals aged 50 or 60.

But why is this empowerment? Some logical rationale could be the costs of old and experienced CEOs, such as insurance premiums, package bracket, and many cost-related factors. If companies have elderly employees, they end up paying higher costs than the young ones. Moreover, the cost will push upwards if the CEO has liabilities for a family, for instance. So, that is becoming expensive for corporations.

Away from the very exceptional cases, the likes of Mark Zuckerberg, the young CEO, can bring fresh ideas to the table. Yet on the operational side, he remains inexperienced, lacking maturity, emotional control, and emotional intelligence, among other qualities.

However, upon examining the true capabilities of a real CEO, we see a remarkably extensive list of qualities, including seasoned, visionary, mature, strategic, insightful, enduring, veteran, resilient, well-established, balanced, and more.

These pillars can help the company grow, achieve its objectives, and, most importantly, help it navigate challenges and perhaps even a crisis. There is definitely a cost for that, yet the ROI is absolutely positive and meaningful.

Unfortunately, this era is characterized by many senses, and one of them is non.  We see a tendency toward change, but instead of the change, there are splashes, struggles, and floundering. Change is taking incorrect directions and leading to breakdowns and damage, but who is ready to wake up? Who wants to see and make the correct step forward?
